Transportation & Local Info

Dublin International Airport (DUB)

Dublin is home to Dublin Airport (DUB), the largest airport on the island of Ireland. DUB is very well connected to the world and several airlines operate to Dublin via direct flights/flights with minimum stops.

Facilities available at the airports include tourist information offices and car rental services.

Travelling to Dun Laoghaire in County Dublin is as easy as taking a taxi or prebooking the Air Coach. You can use the QR code below or use the discount code – RoyalMarine – for 10% off your AirCoach fare.

Public Transport

Dublin has good public transport. You can reach The Royal Marine Hotel via bus most easily (e.g. 45A, 7, 7A, E2, 45B). You can check the buses on Google maps or by downloading the TFI Live app on the app store or Google play store. You can pay on the bus in cash but you will need coins and the exact amount for the fare. Using a Leap Card (you can buy from the airport or in many shops) is much easier and cheaper.

There are also trams (LUAS) and light rail (DART). Dun Laoghaire DART station is approximately a 6 minute walk from The Royal Marine Hotel with regular services to the city centre.

Some buses also operate late at night, but most public transport stops running a bit after 11:00-11:30 depending on the route and the day (e.g later on weekends).

How to validate your ticket
You can validate your tickets in the bus in front of the driver or on one of the machines inside by tapping.
For tram and train – there are machines to tap at the platforms.
Please hold on to the tickets/leap card for any check.

Weather
Dublin in September has temperatures ranging from a minimum of ~17°C to ~9°C. Rain in Ireland cannot be predicted – so if it is raining, please keep calm and carry on. It will be over soon (maybe) and will start again at some point. We see Septembers being less rainy in the last years though.

Currency
The currency in Ireland is the Euro. MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted by most merchants. Cash is often not required but it is a good idea to keep some for small expenses. Coins are usually available in €2 and €1. Paper notes are typically available in €5, €10, €20, €50.

Time Zone
Ireland uses Irish Standard Time (IST, UTC+01:00; Irish: Am Caighdeánach Éireannach) in the summer months and Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+00:00; Irish: Meán-Am Greenwich) in the winter period. The conference will be considered to be in summer time zone.

Electricity
The standard domestic electricity supply in Ireland is 230 volt AC (frequency 50Hz).
For Ireland the associated plug type is G, which is the plug that has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern. You might have to bring an adaptor accordingly.
