Short Bio
Ernst Niederleithinger got his diploma in geophysics from TU Berlin, a Ph. D. from University of Potsdam, and his habilitation from RWTH Aachen university. After 11 years in an engineering firm he joined BAM, the German federal research institute for materials research and testing, in 2001. Currently, he serves as head of the division 8.2 “NDT methods for civil engineering”. His main research interest is transferring geophysical tools from seismic imaging and monitoring to NDT, with applications in assessment of existing building and infrastructure including their foundations, quality assurance of new construction methods and materials, and nuclear waste storage. He is member of DGZfP, DGG, SEG, EAGE, Eurostruct and ASTM and serves in various scientific and standardization committees. He teaches “Engineering Geophysics” at RWTH Aachen university.
Abstract
Non-destructive testing methods are available in civil engineering for decades to estimate concrete properties or to detect flaws and features. But recently we have seen the dawn of next-generation tools, methods, and applications. Some of them will be discussed in the web talk:
